What is the algorithm

The algorithm is the engine that drives the position of a hotel in search engine rankings and on webpages selling hotel rooms. It is also the same system used in Instagram and Snapchat on deciding who will see your message. It is comparable to the calculating-rules system which decides who will get which price offered for a flight ticket. Algorithms are very important in our automated world.

Algorithms are hard to influence: there are many factors influencing the outcome.

  • In search (Google, Bing, Yandex) nearly impossible
  • In timelines of social media nearly impossible
  • In paid positions (like advertisements) somewhat influence by paying more
  • Related to resellers in the channel (like aggregators) somewhat influence by paying more and better relations.
