So the prices, as you can tell from the past, are in line with the international market. The hotel has been a cozy family hotel with an acceptable average occupancy rate so far. It is not a member of one of the big chains or alliances.

The city Emerald Forest Hotel is located in has approximately 130,000 inhabitants. It is a city which has more services to offer than just the ones for the residents The city has several interesting tourist attractions which make it interesting to visit. The old city center is a major tourist attraction. Because of its central location, close to an airport and to the sea, with its own modern train station and good highway connections, the city is a hub to many other destinations. For a few hundred years the city has had a stronghold and had its own markets. In the 21st century, the city still has a strong reputation in retail, services, and industry. The number of jobs located in the city is estimated at 170,000 which means there is a lot of traffic as well. The city provides employment to many incoming workers.
If your assignment becomes managing one of the new venues, the circumstances remain the same. Your geographic location though, obviously very important to your position in the market, is different: Oceanside, City (uptown) or Mountainside

Active branches

The most active relevant employer branches in the city are:

• a big Japanese industrial factory in electronics assembly which employs 5,000 people.
• services related to the internet, especially to warehousing, hold a strong position in the city with 20,000 employees.
• the regional government employs over 7,000 people.
• from the past, logistics (in total 35.000 jobs in more than 40 companies), shipping and storage play an important role in this region.
• the shops in the old town, are a major tourist attraction and employ over 15,000 people.

Because of these industrial activities, the hospitality industry is important as well. Not only hotels, like the Emerald Forest Hotel, but also restaurants and bars are situated in the city in large numbers. Therefore there is also a (separate) big conference hall for major events, as the MICE-market has always found good partners in the city.

Population

The population of the city is the same as in an average city in the country; although the number of young urban-oriented people is growing. The image of the city is that of a dynamic and interesting place to live. Many people prefer to live in this city rather than in other places.

Grounds

The hotel stands on privately owned grounds. The roads leading to the hotel are, until they reach the hotel parking lot, owned and maintained by the municipality (see the groundplan). The park and its grounds (to the north of the hotel and alongside the banqueting halls) are owned by the municipality and very well taken care of. The municipality will never allow any construction to be built in the park-area which is considered to be the green lung of this part of the city.
