Links to Flickr
You use a normal hyperlink to a certain photo on Flickr directly.
- You can do so by finding out in properties (right mouse click on picture) the direct address. This looks like:
- Of course you can also open Flickr and within Flickr the photo:
- If you want to embed the picture you will have to use tags. The basic tag is: <flickr>The name of the photo</flickr>.
Beware that a photo on Flickr can be up to 8 mb. So if you do not change this, it might be a problem when showing it and when loading it (takes to long) . The code is <flickr>7254699232</flickr> This looks like:
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7254699232
Flickr photo put in Google Map
You can also put a Flickr photo in a place-mark used in Google Maps, if you are into this (so you are making a mash up there).
In the place-mark used in Google Maps choose the HTML-format and please type:
<IMG SRC="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/119/257178671_77a89bc655_m.jpg">
This has to be a reference to the place/name/number that the photo has on Flickr.
Size
The size of a photo is easy to change by adding a code:
<flickr>7254699232|m</flickr>
- t is thumbnail, very small
- m for medium, so small
- b for big, so large
The medium size looks like this:
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7254699232
The thumbnail (very small) looks like this:
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7254699232
Be serious about copyrights!
Tags
The tags you give to the pictures on Flickr are very important! Be sure to use the system and to choose lots of relevant tags.
Editing Flickr photos
You can make a Flickr photo more useful or attractive by adding extra information in the tag-code.
You can put photos in a frame, enlarge them etc. or give them a title.
Photos posted on Flickr, can be embedded easily in your teampage with the code <flickr>7289413402|m|frame|Christina Bergman at the Emerald Forest Hotel|center</flickr>. Please find the example explained below:
- 461670089 : the het number of the photo on Flickr.com
- m :the seize of the photo; possibilities and extra's:
- "s": Small, very small square measures 75x75 pixels
- "t": Thumbnail, 100 pixels on the longest side
- "m": Medium, 240 pixels on the longest side
- "-": Normal, 500 pixels on the longest side (recommended)
- "b": Big, 1024 pixels on the longest side
- frame : puts a frame around the photo
- Christina Bergman at the Emerald Forest Hotel : free text to explain something on the photo.
- center : the photo will be in the center (right and left also possible)
The result looks like this:(if you click the photo you will jump to the original on Flickr):
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7289413402
An example will be:
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7289413402
How an option like this looks like can be seen below. Now we are really stepping into HTML, check the codes by the edit tab.
This will bring the following codes:
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7289522660 | Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7254700496 |
This will bring the following results:
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7289522660 |
Flickr Error ( Photo not found ): PhotoID 7254700496 |
We will not go any further on this item, but (if you happen to be handy..) almost all HTML-tags work in this software. Have a look at more on HTML.
If you post or use photos from Flickr, make sure to have some continuity, because if they are taken from Flickr the pages will be linked on every time you open them. Once they disappear from Flickr they will no longer appear in this platform as well. Sometimes it is better to post them here directly in the Emerald Forest Management game platform.
Click here for a basic explanation on how to use Flickr:
Upload and reducing sizes
To keep the platform quick it is advisable to reduce the size of your photos (and reduce the quality as well). The platform, as any internet site, will not show quality anyhow. So bring the picture/photo back to 50 to max 100 kb. You are not allowed to upload more then 100 kb.
If a picture is a odd size, be sure that the width is not more then 500 pixels as well.
Handy program to do so is ShrinkPic. After choosing high compression
This software will reduce the (jpg.) pictures in the background on uploading them.
This free software can be downloaded from this link and lot of other sites.
Pay attention! As this software is automatically active on using the PC it brings back all pictures you send etc. to less then 100kb. If you do not want this, you have to deactivate (right hand corner, below) the software at these moments.
Blanks in names
If you embed a photo or something else it is advisable not to have any blanks (gaps) in the names of the files, for instance on YouTube, Flickr or Earth.
Instead of blanks use underscores (_) or the minus sign (-): this is something special in this software. <no wiki> Do NOT use ' or * and & either </no wiki>. This will cause problems in the platform.
