The "Three Minutes of Fame" offers your hotel the last and ultimate possibility to promote and present your hotel to the outside world. In this world there is so much communication that it is hard to stand-out or get any reach at all.
As is apparent from the hotel-intel provided to you by Ms. Jandal, the owners under-invested in the property. This may compromise the competitive position of the hotel. In this assignment, you are asked to prepare an investment plan.
You will be informed: the plan is to have an online meeting (and voting) linked to all of the product made.

You hotel is relatively new and is looking for more exposure - reach. Make a statement to the outer world where your hotel stands for, and make it a memorable! So be creative, and think on your company strategic goals during your “Three Minutes”. As you know, you only have a maximum of three minutes to make this unforgettable impression.…
You have been running the hotel for some years now. You are familiar with its qualities, but also with its shortcomings. Where does the hotel need an extra push? The audience for your “Three Minutes” could be:
* your target groups,
* coaches,

* competitors (other teams),
* maybe press relations
Just make it very clear whom you are aiming at.

Make a three minutes of fame that is memorable, that has a very clear message, that has a clear call-to-action and which is in-line with your strategy.
Elevate the hotel to a next level. Improve your organization in such a way that the investment pays off.
It should be very clear whom you are aiming at. In the end, just seeing the message (just reach, clicks, views, likes e.g.) can never be the (final) goal.
You can't do all of this live, because of the Corona situation. The way of presenting your 3 minutes is free; you can do whatever you like but keep an eye on your strategy. For this purpose, you can (for example) film a live-act, make a video, perform/produce a commercial supported by PowerPoint or music, a cartoon, a song: or whatever suits your needs and fits with the image of your hotel (and is in line with your strategy). Be creative and innovative! You have to upload your work in the cloud (YouTube, Drive etc.) be sure the file is public accessible and that the link opens the file without logins etc. In all you make: beware of IP rights!
Investment Proposal, based on an innovation in services, operations, communication, information, sustainability, experiences, products, or in the actual product (the property itself).
Be sure that the link to your document is clickable and ready on the tab Decisions in your team File, cell F47.

Invest in Innovation

As is apparent from the hotel-intel provided to you by Ms. Jandal, the owners under-invested in the property. This may compromise the competitive position of the hotel. In this assignment, you are asked to prepare an investment plan.

Situation

You have been running the hotel for some years now. You are familiar with its qualities, but also with its shortcomings. Where does the hotel need an extra push? What observations or opportunities -both inside and outside your hotel- do you want to act upon? Now is the time to decide on innovation and invest in the future.

Goal

Elevate the hotel to a next level. Improve your organization in such a way that the investment pays off.

Task, deliverable

Investment Proposal, based on an innovation in services, operations, communication, information, sustainability, experiences, products, or in the actual product (the property itself).

Assessed elements

 • Is the need explained, demonstrated?
 • Does the innovation show originality? Does it build on new trends and developments?
 • Are the proposals mutually consistent? Do they meet a real challenge?
 • Substantiation of the amounts (ballpark)
 • Timing and impact on financials

Handing in

Hand in your material by uploading it in the right folder in the Capstone Course in LMS.

 • A description of the observations and opportunities that lead to the innovation to invest.
 • An overview of the nature of the investments your team deems necessary for the next 5 years. In case you are not sure what we mean by this, consider e.g. our core courses at BUas. Is it your first priority to invest in Marketing? Or in hotel staff somehow (OB, Operations Management)? Systems (MIS)? Sustainability (BL&E)? Guest experience? Product innovation?
 • “Ballpark” figures for the amounts of money involved. Don’t go too much in-depth here, nobody expects you to ask companies for quotes for how much it would cost to buy new dustbins 😉 But say you propose to do some kind of upgrade of the guest rooms, we do expect you to give us an indication of how much such an investment would come down to.
 • A timeline of when what investment should be made.
 • The impact on depreciation and hotel profit in the future 5 years.
