The post pandemic recovery plan
In your Business assignment year 0 (Preparations), you have to make many decisions on the strategy of your hotel. Now, in this Creativity assignment year 0, you are going to formulate a Covid19 recovery plan for the next 12 months. How will your hotel adapt, as governments relax the current measures, and the world will hopefully return to a new ‘normal’?
Situation
Your hotel offers a wide array of hospitality services, many of which involve people being in close proximity to one another. As more and more people get vaccinated, governments are issuing “Re-Opening” plans, in which they communicate how they intend to relax the current measures over time. This poses managerial questions such as, but not necessarily limited to the following:
- How does it affect your hospitality product?
- How would you welcome, as the country opens up again, your guests?
- What type of security and safety can you offer?
- How would you communicate this?
- (How) can you turn this into a USP?
Do not go overboard in researching specific countries’ regulations; Amstelburg, Budano and Copenstadt could be in any country and hotel guests could come from anywhere. Keep a bird’s-eye view.
Goal
Define the post-pandemic recovery plan for your hotel, in line with your strategy and service level. Describe the consequences for your operations and communication.
Task, deliverable
Task, deliverable Check the internet and other sources for best practices, examples from the industry and maybe also outside the hospitality field. Based on your investigation, design a recovery plan that best suits your hotel and create an instructional memo for all employees in the hotel, explaining the implications of said plan.
- Overview of inspirational best practices outside your hotel
- Based on this and other sources: present the 3 main topics of your plan.
- Write a short (max 1 page) instruction memo to all employees. What do you expect from them, what not? What do they need to know?

- How well does the plan define the ‘new normal’ and the likely re-opening route?
- Does the plan comply with the new normal?
- How well does the plan tie in with the new strategy?
- Is the plan likely to be understood and executed by employees?
- Are ethics and international cultural differences taken into consideration?
