Assignments

Name of assignment

Create a set of amenities. Hotel amenities are desirable or useful features provided when booking or renting a room at a hotel, taking a flight e.g. The amenities provided in each hotel vary: in most hotels a number of amenities will be standard with all rooms and for free. In others, they may be optional for an additional cost. So, it is different from merchandise, which are products (probably tangible) that can be sold and have a strong relation to the hotel and it's strategy. It is also not the same as (promotional) giveaways, though there is a strong link between all three of them.

Situation

In the hotel rooms, by tradition, most hotel have a set of amenities. Most famous elements in this are soap, tooth paste e.g. In the Emerald Forest hotel these items always have been for free, and a limited number of these product was offered in the rooms, in the bathroom. These items were bought in bulk and so far never branded.

Goal

The create a new set of (branded) amenities, reflecting the new strategy. Jill Jandal want the amenities to be for free, as they have always been.
Apart from being functional, 'healthy' and good for the environment, the set should also give the customers a good feeling.
The costs, though, have to be acceptable looking at other costs groups.

Task, deliverable

Create a moodboard of a set of amenities and make clear what

  • Exactly the product should be (maybe more than just the bathrooms products) and why and for which target group? Or do all rooms get the same set? families?
  • Make a mockup or a moodboard of what the 'branded' products will look like
  • Determine the quantities needed
  • Give an estimate of the costs per year (or per booking)

Assessed elements

  • Do the amenities reflect the strategy?
  • Is there a clear difference between amenities for free and items not for free (towels e.g.)?
  • Are the numbers chosen realistic?
  • Are the costs realistic and in proportion to the goals?
  • Are all the sources accounted for?
